Len Kelley Memorial- July 25, 2010
A memorial will be held for Sunset artist Len Kelley on July 25, 2010 after sunset. Kelley passed away on July 21 after being hospitalized for a week for heart related issues. Kelley was beloved by his many sunset friends. He is also known as Coconut Kelley because he began his Sunset career selling coconuts cut with a machete and served with a straw. Kelley loved music and jammed with many local bands as a reggae singer. He was especially famous for his performance of the song Night Nurse. Kelley was a proficient artisan. The final years of his participation at Sunset were characterized by the manufacture of beautiful twisted wire jewelry. His intricate creations were constructed of silver, gold, brass and copper wire. His stand was always beautifully decorated with fresh local flowers. At the end of the evening he tossed the flowers into the ocean offering them to the gods of nature. Kelley will be sorely missed by his many friends at Sunset. |
